About Part Numbers
Team 4469 will be using eight-character part numbers. These part numbers must always be the first characters in any Fusion part. Parts can have common names after to have easier reference during conversation
Part numbers will be generated as you work on parts in the Design board. Before starting a new part in Fusion 360, a part should be entered in the Design board and have a part number generated.
Why are we using part numbers?
Part numbers make it easy to track a part throughout its development. From the moment the part is created in Fusion, it has a consistent part number that will never change. This allows you to make a drawing of part 24-04103 and know that it will be exactly the part you are looking for, rather than having to decide if you want “Standoff 1”, “Lower Standoff”, “Purple Standoff” or “Standoff”. Having consistent part numbers between teams who work together also ensures that each team always has the most updated version of the correct part. Part numbers are also used in industry, so the techniques used on this team will help you later on in your career.
